A wide range of 'other factors' influence the development of chronic diseases, often working through the behavioural and biomedical risk factors. These include:
- Non-modifiable factors, such as age and our genetic heritage (including sex, ethnicity, and family history)
- Social and environmental factors, such as socio-economic status, community characteristics (including social capital), working conditions and living environment
- Psychosocial factors, such as social support or exclusion, resilience, emotional wellbeing, and sense of control over one's life
- Early life factors, such as maternal health, low birth weight, childhood infections, abuse and neglect.
These are not currently covered on this web portal, but may be included in future up-dates.
