Early childhood development: understanding the evidence to inform parenting, early learning programs and access to services for Indigenous children

Seminar in Sydney on 6 December 2012, Canberra on 21 February 2013, and Darwin on 29 May 2013

It included presentations on the following three papers:

• Parenting in the early years: effectiveness of parenting support programs for Indigenous families, presented by Dr Robyn Mildon, Parenting Research Centre
• Early learning programs that promote children's developmental and educational outcomes, presented by Associate Professor Sharon Goldfeld, Centre for Community Child Health, Royal Children's Hospital and the Murdoch Children's Research Institute (Sydney and Canberra) and Linda Harrison, Charles Sturt University (Darwin)
• Improving access to urban and regional early childhood services, presented by Dr Daryl Higgins, Australian Institute of Family Studies.

The seminar was chaired by Associate Professor Karen Martin, School of Education and Professional Studies, Griffith University

What works to increase Indigenous employment?

Seminar in Canberra on 19 March, Adelaide on 4 May and Brisbane on 6 July 2012

It included presentations on the following two papers:

• Increasing Indigenous employment rates, by Matthew Gray and Boyd Hunter ANU and Shaun Lohoar from AIFS.
• Strategies to enhance employment of Indigenous ex-offenders after release from correctional institutions, by Joseph Graffam and Alison Shinkfield, Deakin University.
