National Advisory Group on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Information and Data (NAGATSIHID)

The National Advisory Group on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Information and Data (NAGATSIHID) was established following a decision taken at the Australian Health Ministers' Advisory Council (AHMAC) meeting in October 2000.
The role of NAGATSIHID is:
- to provide broad strategic advice to the AHMAC and its National Health Information Principal Committee (NHIMPC) on ways of improving the quality and availability of data and information on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and health service delivery, and
- to draw together the range of Indigenous health information management activities into a coordinated and strategic process.
The NAGATSIHID Strategic Plan 2006-2008 sets out the work program for the Committee.
NAGATSIHID membership comprises of the following:
- Australian Bureau of Statistics (1 representative)
- The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (1 representative)
- Department of Health and Ageing (1 representative)
- Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (1 representative)
- Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (1 representative)
- Torres Strait Regional Authority(1 representative)
- Statistical Information Management Committee (1 representative)
- National Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander Health Officials Network (2 representatives)
- National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (2 representatives)
- Indigenous advisors on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and welfare (3 representatives)
- Epidemiologist with expertise in Indigenous health issues (1 representative)
A key priority of NAGATSIHID is to maintain an Indigenous majority at meetings.

- Data Principles - The Australian Health Ministers' Advisory Council (AHMAC) meeting of October 2006 endorsed a set of national data principles which aim to guide and improve the use of information relating to the health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians. Jurisdictions are encouraged to adopt and promote the principles within their boundaries.
