National Diabetes Data Working Group

The National Diabetes Data Working Group (NDDWG) is the national advisory committee to the National Centre for Monitoring Diabetes and the National Diabetes Register. The NDDWG is a multidisciplinary committee which contains representatives from the Australian Government, consumers, General Practice, and diabetes-related professional organisations. The NDDWG reports to the National Diabetes Strategies Group (NDSG).
NDDWG Terms of Reference
Terms of reference relating to the National Centre for Monitoring Diabetes:

- Identify the national information needs and requirements for data reporting on diabetes in Australia;
- As the National Advisory Committee for Diabetes Data reporting to the NDSG, provide timely responses to requests for comment, and proactive advice where appropriate, on relevant diabetes data issues;
- As the Advisory Committee to the National Centre for Monitoring Diabetes at the AIHW provide timely responses to requests for comment, and proactive advice where appropriate, on relevant diabetes data issues;
- To ensure high quality data, advocate for consistency in, and widely promote appropriate use of diabetes data items utilising standardised definitions, in all areas including health care practice, population health surveys, and other relevant data sources;
- Maintain and update the Diabetes Data set [and relevant subsets] in the National Health Data Dictionary;
- Promote the collection, collation, analysis, reporting and publication of diabetes data in all appropriate avenues/venues;
- Liaise with all relevant local, state, national and international bodies with respect to relevant data issues;
- Establish and administer appropriate committee management through documented proceedings and regular reporting mechanisms to relevant stakeholder bodies and organisations;
- Elect a chairperson on an annual basis, and review the Terms of Reference biennially.
Terms of reference relating to the National Diabetes Register:

The AIHW is responsible for the management of the NDR under the guidance of the National Diabetes Data Working Group. The group's terms of reference are to:
- Advise on policy and management issues relating to data held on the Register including the operation of the Register;
- Provide advice on issues relating to the scope and performance of the Register and the utility of obtaining and validating data from all sources;
- Provide advice about the development and monitoring of performance indicators appropriate to the efficient functioning of the Register, and provide guidance in relation to the monitoring and public reporting on performance against these measures;
- Review annually a report on the overall performance of the Register provided by the AIHW, (i.e. the quality and completeness of data as well as the nature and presentation of the findings);
- Examine wider opportunities relating to the existence of the Register;
- Promote equity of access to Register data for all researchers, and when required provide advice to assist in resolving any problems relating to requests for information.
