Statistical Information Management Committee (SIMC)

The Statistical Information Management Committee (SIMC) is a national committee that advises the National Health Information Management Principal Committee (NHIMPC, formerly NHIG) on national health statistics. More specifically the SIMC advises NHIMPC on data collection, storage, linkage and usage and develops and co-ordinates national minimum data sets. The SIMC also develops the national health information development plan and oversees the direction development, review and implementation of the National Health Information Agreement (NHIA). It also oversights METeOR, Australia's Health and Community Services Data Register, which is the electronic version of the National Health Data Dictionary.
Members include the representatives of all parties to the NHIA, that is all jurisdictions, the Department of Veterans Affairs (from 1 September 2004) the Medicare Australia, the Australian Bureau of Statistics and the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare. The New Zealand Ministry of Health and Chair of the Health Data Standards Committee have observer status.
The current National Health Information Agreement (NHIA) 2004-2009, commenced on 1 September 2004 and is to be in effect for a period of five years from commencement.
