Terminology
Deaths: Mortality data presented on the cardiovascular disease pages of this website include only cases where a given condition was the underlying (primary) cause of death.
Hospitalisations: Hospitalisation data presented on the cardiovascular disease pages of this website refers to hospital separations, that is, the number of episodes of admitted patient care. Such episodes can be a total hospital stay (from admission to discharge, transfer or death), or a portion of a hospital stay beginning or ending in a change of care type (for example from acute to rehabilitation). As such, an individual patient can be represented in the data more than once.
Prevalence: The number of cases or instances present in a population at a given time.
