What is blood glucose level (BGL)?
Blood glucose level, or BGL, is a measure of how much glucose (a type of sugar) there is in your blood. If your blood glucose levels are too high, this may mean that you have diabetes, or that you may have either impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) or impaired fasting glucose (IFG). People who have IFG or IGT are at high risk of developing diabetes in the future, and are often said to have 'pre-diabetes'.
You can find more information about BGL and pre-diabetes at the Australian Diabetes Council.
Where can I find more information about diabetes?
The National Centre for Monitoring Diabetes has published a number of publications about diabetes. You can find more detailed statistics on the risk factors for diabetes on the AIHW's risk factor pages. Links to other websites with information about diabetes can be found on our links page.
