Recent patterns of treatment episodes by main treatment type

The AODTS–NMDS has collected treatment services information since 2001–02. In this time, there has been a steady decline in the number of episodes provided for withdrawal management (detoxification). There was a notable change in the  number of 'other' treatment episodes in 2007–08. The number of pharmacotherapy episodes included in 'other' has remained similar, so the increase in 'other' episodes is due to an increase in non-pharmacotherapy treatments.
The collection guidelines for alcohol and other drug professionals provides a complete list of the definitions for all of the data items in the collection.
