Best Company to Work for in 2008

AIHW is proud to have been recognised by Great Place to Work™ Australia as a 'Best Company to Work For in 2008'. We intend to remain a great workplace by providing fulfilling work in a trusting environment.

Aim of the selection process

The aim of the process is to select the best person for each vacancy. All of the elements of the selection are important and will be considered by the Selection Committee. As assessment may be made on application and referee comments only, it is important that applicants provide a high quality application and do not see it as a lesser part of the process.

Workplace diversity

The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare is an equal opportunity employer. It aims to ensure that fair, equitable and non-discriminatory consideration is given to all applicants.

The Institute's Workplace Diversity program seeks to ensure that differences in gender, cultural background, physical and intellectual abilities, age, sexual orientation, education and family circumstances are recognised as an organisational resource. It also acknowledges differences in people's experience, views, skills, values and working styles and the benefits this can bring to the Institute.

Should you be short-listed, an interview may be arranged. Please advise if you have a disability, or would like any special arrangements made to help you present your case to the Committee. The Selection Committee will endeavour to cater for applicants with special needs to ensure that all applicants are considered on merit.

The Selection Committee

The Selection Committee will be making an overall assessment of your suitability for the position based on your statement of claims against the selection criteria. If further assessment is necessary to compare the applicants, interviews or other selection methods (such as skills testing) may be used. Referees will be contacted only for the most competitive applicants.

Selection criteria

The Selection Criteria are considered to be the most practical and equitable basis for the assessment of the claims of applicants. They are the skills needed to perform the job successfully.

Decisions and feedback

All applicants who have applied for Institute vacancies will be notified of the outcome of the selection exercise in writing, as soon as practicable after the process is finalised.

In your application, it is important that you focus on demonstrating competency against all of the Selection Criteria, in order that the Committee can make an informed recommendation. The Committee is seeking content that is relevant, concise and to the point, in preference to unnecessary length.

Short-listing

The Selection Committee will use written applications as the basis for short-listing applicants who will be further considered in the assessment process. It is important therefore that your written application is well substantiated and available by the closing date.

Referee's reports

Your referee should have current or recent knowledge of your work and work performance.

If short-listed for interview it is your responsibility to get references to the Selection Committee as soon as possible. Your referee does have the option of providing either a written or oral report. If the latter option is chosen please provide contact details. Where possible, you should bring referee reports with you to the interview. You may if you wish make further comments on the contents of a referee's report.
