Background

The Business Group provides the infrastructure that supports the Institute's business objectives, including resources, services and technical advice across the range of corporate and information services functions.
The Information Services and Publishing Unit manages and coordinates the development of the Institute's website and intranet; supports and enhances the integrated production and dissemination of Institute publications and other products; provides a comprehensive library service; and manages record keeping.

Job description

The Web Support Officer works in a small team responsible for the Institute's website and intranet. Tasks include maintaining and updating content, quality assurance, author support, traffic monitoring, responding to feedback and general site development, including graphic design.

Duty statement

Immediate Supervisor: Web Administrator (APS Level 6)

Under general direction:

  1. Assist with the maintenance and development of the Institute's website and intranet.
  2. Assist with the provision of high quality web content author training and support by managing the Internet/Intranet Helpdesk (during standard business hours); including problem resolution or referral as appropriate, follow up, and analysis and reporting.
  3. Assist with site promotion and traffic analysis.
  4. Assist with graphic design for the sites.

Selection criteria

Important

  1. Demonstrated experience in web site maintenance and development.
  2. Awareness of current and emerging web technologies.
  3. Solid understanding of HTML and CSS, dynamic scripting languages (e.g. Javascript, Cold Fusion and PHP) and web authoring tools (e.g. FrontPage, Dreamweaver, Acrobat and PhotoShop).
  4. Helpdesk and user training and support experience, including sound diagnostic and problem solving skills.
  5. Excellent communication skills.
  6. Strong client service focus and a team-oriented approach.
  7. A knowledge of, and demonstrated commitment to the APS Values (in particular, Workplace Diversity and Occupational Health and Safety) and an ability to apply them to one's own work practices.

Desirable

  1. Understanding of Government Online Standards and Guidelines.
