Duties
The Health & Functioning Group develops, maintains, and analyses national data to support monitoring and reporting on the health status of Australians, and the factors that determine health.
The Group covers a range of health issues such as chronic diseases, the health of populations, health risk factors, and environmental health. Many analytical sources and methods are used, including health registers, survey data, administrative by-product data, and health record linkage.
The main functions of the Health Registers and Cancer Monitoring Unit are to monitor, investigate and report on cancer incidence, mortality and survival, and population-based cancer-screening indicators.Â
If you
- have a strong epidemiology/statistical or scientific/health service background, ideally with subject matter knowledge in the Unit's areas of work.
- have the ability to represent the Institute at national and international meetings, and enjoy dealing with others
- are an excellent communicator and negotiator (AIHW works closely with all jurisdictions and leading clinicians/researchers),
- can provide leadership in the field as well as lead and manage, and be part of, a technical team, and
- are consultative, open to new ideas and have energy, drive, enthusiasm and initiative
