The Functioning and Disability Unit has a varied and interesting work program which includes the management and analysis of two national data collections on disability services and the analysis and reporting on disability in the Australian population. This work involves us with a number of external organisations, including the Australian Bureau of Statistics, Australian Government and state and territory government agencies, and non-government organisations in the disability services sector.

Duty Statement

Immediate Supervisor: EL 1

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Under general direction:

  1. Undertake project work and research activities including data analysis in the fields of responsibility of the Functioning and Disability Unit.
  2. Undertake the collection and/or analysis of data and assist in the preparation of reports, publications, papers and submissions.
  3. Undertake moderately complex design; project planning or development tasks.
  4. Provide advice on technical and administrative matters to senior managers.
  5. Liaise with people both inside and outside the AIHW.

Selection Criteria

Important

  1. Demonstrated ability in the collation and analysis of data from multiple external agencies, including strong liaison and communication skills.
  2. The ability to manage work flow and priorities in order to contribute effectively to a team.
  3. The ability to produce written work of a high standard.
  4. The ability to produce and interpret descriptive statistics in tabular and graphical formats.
  5. A knowledge of, and demonstrated commitment to the APS Values (in particular, Workplace Diversity and Occupational Health and Safety) and an ability to apply them to one's own work practices.

Desirable

  1. Programming skills in the Statistical Analysis System (SAS) or demonstrated ability to acquire SAS programming skills.
  2. Tertiary qualifications and/or relevant work experience.
