Professor Beverley Raphael
Professor Beverley Raphael is Director of the
Centre for Mental Health for NSW and Emeritus Professor in Psychiatry from the
University of Queensland. She also holds professorial appointments at the
University of NSW, the University of Sydney and the University of Newcastle. She
has a long term interest in prevention in mental health, with special reference
to child and adolescent mental health, women's mental health, family issues and
issues affecting consumers in mental health care systems, and in the public
health approach to mental health. She has also been involved in the development
of Aboriginal Mental Health Policy. She has overseen the development of a
population mental health service model and related information systems.
She has a long-term interest and expertise in trauma, grief and disasters, and has published and researched in this field, and has been involved in disaster response to a wide range of natural and man-made disasters, preparation for potential terrorism for the Sydney Olympics and response to the Bali bombing.
