Ms Sally Goodspeed

Australia's health: vital signs vital statisticsSally has worked in the Australian Bureau of Statistics since 1986, in a range of different areas, including Population Census, Retail Census, and Health statistics. From mid 2000 Sally has worked in Health statistics, first working as an outposted officer to the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing, where she advised on the use of ABS and other data for policy analysis and development, and program administration. For the past year, as the Director of the ABS Health section, Sally has been responsible for planning the development and content of the next National Health Survey, for disseminating analyses from previous national health surveys, mortality analyses and other health statistics. She enjoys working across the diversity of topics of interest in health, and with the range of people who take an interest in health statistics.

For much of this year, Sally has been acting head of the Health and Community Statistics Branch. In addition to health statistics, this Branch covers topics such as disability, social capital, time use, crime and justice and statistics on families, women, children, ageing etc.

Sally has completed studies in Education and Statistics.
