Health expenditure data cubes

Note 1: There are two cubes for both national and state and territory data sets because of a break in time series between 2002-03 and 2003-04. Cubes containing data up to and including 2002-03 report public hospital expenditure. Cubes covering the period 2003-04 to 2007-08 contain expenditure on public hospital services. Refer to Box 4.1 in Health expenditure Australia 2007-08, for an explanation of the terms 'public hospitals' and 'public hospital services'. In these data cubes, local government expenditure has only been included in the estimates up to 2000-01.

Note 2: These data cubes include information on total Australian Government specific purpose payments (SPPs) to states and territories. The link below is to an excel table which splits the SPPs to public hospitals into Australian health care agreements (AHCAs) funding and other SPPs.

Australian Government SPPs to states and territories, public hospitals, 1999-00 to 2007-08

Note 3: Below is a link to a series of excel tables showing government capital consumption by area of expenditure, by state and territory, in current prices, 1971-72 to 2007-08. The estimates of total capital consumption for each of the states and territories and for the Australian Government, were sourced from the Australian Bureau of Statistics government finance statistics. The state, territory and Australian Government splits of capital consumption by area of expenditure have required the use of allocation factors derived from 2007-08 data supplied to the AIHW by the state and territory health authorities and the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing, respectively.
