What is AIHW aiming to achieving through the annual Graduate intake process?

The purpose of the AIHW annual Graduate Intake process is to select and develop high-quality entry-level staff who can make an immediate valuable contribution to AIHW's work and who have the capability and desire to pursue a longer term career at AIHW.

Applications will be open from mid-June to mid-July each year. Information on how to apply for the AIHW's Graduate Intake is included under the job vacancies page: www.aihw.gov.au/job-vacancies/ when applications open. The start dates for graduates are flexible depending on each graduate' particular situation (e.g. relocation) and AHIW operational needs (e.g. availability of an identified role).  Many past Graduates have typically commenced early in the new calendar year.

Are all the positions based in Canberra?

How does the AIHW Graduate Intake differ from other APS Graduate Programs?

The AIHW Graduate Intake provides graduates with ongoing roles from the outset, along with on-the-job, and classroom based, learning and development opportunities. This provides AIHW graduates with the opportunity to 'really sink their teeth into' a significant project/s and make a meaningful contribution from the outset, while quickly acquiring a depth of experience and knowledge and essential skills development.  AIHW graduates are able to transfer into other positions across agency (mobility), and/or apply for promotion, as opportunities arise (no time restrictions apply).

Other APS agencies more commonly hold Graduate Programs. These essentially offer graduates a 'training' position, where they spend their first year or two working through a series of structured work rotations across the agency. Mobility and/or promotional opportunities do not usually occur until graduates complete the program.

Can rotations occur as part of AIHW's Graduate Intake?

Yes, on a case-by-case basis. As AIHW Graduates win ongoing roles from the outset, most will not rotate through different positions across AIHW during their first year of employment. Successful graduates interested in work rotations are encouraged to explore opportunities with their Group Head (senior manager) once they commence.

What is the salary for Graduates? Where can I find information on other AIHW employment conditions and benefits?

AIHW Graduates will be paid at the APS4 level, currently $62,405 to $67,589 (plus superannuation). Further information on remuneration and conditions/benefits of service can be found in AIHW's Enterprise Agreement: www.aihw.gov.au/benefits-of-working-for-the-aihw/

How will I know if I have been initially shortlisted?

Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted regarding the next phase of the selection process. If you have been shortlisted, you can generally expect to be contacted within three weeks of applications closing.

When do I find out if I have been successful?

Offers of employment usually commence from the end of September. However an order of merit is established from each year's recruitment process that allows AIHW to make offers well into the next calendar year.

Will I get feedback on my application?

Shortlisted applicants who proceeded to interview can request feedback on their application and overall performance in the recruitment process once the process in completed. Feedback will be provided by a member of the selection panel.
