Health Expenditure Advisory Committee (HEAC)
This committee oversees the development of health expenditure statistics and meets two or three times a year.
The committee consists of representatives from AIHW, the Department of Health and Ageing, state and territory health departments, the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the Commonwealth Grants Commission, the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, Medicare Australia and the Private Health Insurance Administration Council. It is anticipated that the range of participating organisations may be expanded over time to include some other non-government organisations and academics with an interest in expenditure on health in Australia.

Technical Advisory Group (TAG) for the Expenditures on health for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples project
The Technical Advisory Group (TAG) provides advice to the project dealing with expenditures on health services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The committee consists of representatives from the AIHW, the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing, state and territory health authorities and other organisations including the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs and the National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation.

Technical Advisory Group (TAG) for the National Public Health Expenditure Project (NPHEP)
The Technical Advisory Group reports to the Public Health Information Working Group (PHIWG). The TAG includes project officers from each jurisdiction who have responsibility for the conduct of the public health expenditure data collection. The TAG has responsibility for overseeing the collection, estimation and reporting of public health expenditure.

Steering committee for the review of Commonwealth/State service provision - health working group
The Steering Committee comprises representatives from the Australian Government, state and territory and local governments. The committee is chaired by Mr Gary Banks (who is also chair of the Productivity Commission). The chair of the Steering Committee has an independent role and does not represent the Australian Government or state and territory governments. The Steering Committee is supported by working groups, one of which is the health working group. This group is convened by a particular steering committee member and is responsible for the development of agreed performance measures for the health sector. Each jurisdiction has the opportunity to nominate a representative on the Working Group, comprising senior staff of the state health authorities. The Working Group may also draw on advice from specialist research groups, such as the AIHW and the ABS.
Secretariat: The Productivity Commission is the secretariat to the steering committee.
