In January 2009, the SAAP V agreement between the Australian Government and the states and territories was replaced by the National Partnership Agreement on Homelessness. This is the first report under the new arrangements and contains data from the Interim Supported Accommodation Assistance Program (SAAP) National Data Collection. Crisis Accommodation Program 2008-09
This report presents data for the 2008-09 Commonwealth State Housing Agreement (CSHA) Crisis Accommodation Program (CAP) data collection. Dwellings funded under the CSHA Crisis Accommodation Program are used by governments, churches and other welfare organisations to assist people in situations of actual or impending crisis or homelessness.
State owned and managed Indigenous housing 2008-09
Over 11,500 households were living in state owned and managed Indigenous housing at 30 June 2009, occupying 95% of all SOMIH dwellings.
Problem gambling among those seeking homelessness services
In 2007-08, there were 2,462 Supported Accommodation Assistance Program (SAAP) support periods where the client was identified as having gambling-related issues. This represented 1.2% of the total support periods under the SAAP program. Compared with all SAAP clients, clients with gambling-related issues were more likely to be older and more likely to be male.

Indigenous housing needs 2009: a multi-measure needs model
The Indigenous population experiences higher rates of homelessness and overcrowding than the non-Indigenous population. Whilst non-Indigenous Australians experience higher rates of affordability need, houses are least affordable for Indigenous Australians living in major cities. The number of additional dwellings required to address these problems is estimated to be 9,795. Since the 2005 report, connection to essential services and levels of overcrowding have improved, however, dwelling condition has deteriorated. Indigenous housing needs 2009: a multi-measure needs model presents the most recent data on the level of Indigenous housing need across five dimensions, estimates the current dwelling need gap and provides projections of Indigenous housing need.
Indigenous housing indicators 2007-08
In 2007-08, there were over 36,000 dwellings specifically targeted to providing housing assistance to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples - an increase of almost 1,000 dwellings since 2005-06. A further 58,000 Indigenous households were receiving assistance through mainstream housing programs in the same period. Indigenous housing indicators 2007-08 provides current national data across all housing assistance programs on a range of key Indigenous housing indicators including connection to services, dwelling condition, overcrowding, affordability of housing, rents collected and charged, and recurrent and capital expenditure on Indigenous housing.
Crisis Accommodation Program 2007-08
At 30 June 2008, over 7,500 dwellings were funded under CAP and were used by governments, churches and other welfare organisations to assist people in situations of actual or impending crisis or homelessness. Limited information on the households assisted in CAP dwellings is also reported. Under the 2003 Commonwealth State Housing Agreement (CSHA), the Crisis Accommodation Program (CAP) national data report presents summary information dwellings funded under CAP in order to meet the requirements of the CSHA national performance reporting framework.
Private rent assistance 2007-08
In 2007-08, states and territories provided assistance in the form of bond loans, rental grants/subsidies, relocation expenses and other one-off grants to about 120,000 households. Under the 2003 Commonwealth State Housing Agreement (CSHA), the private rent assistance national data report presents summary information and performance indicators on households receiving private rent assistance as required under the CSHA national performance reporting framework.
Home purchase assistance 2007-08
In 2007-08, states and territories provided various forms of home purchase assistance including direct lending, deposit assistance, interest rate assistance, home purchase advisory and counselling services and mortgage relief to about 32,000 households. Community housing tenants: results from the 2007 National Social Housing Survey
This bulletin looks at those community housing tenants that responded to the 2007 National Social Housing Survey. The survey collects valuable information about the nature of the community housing sector of those tenants assisted under the 2003 Commonwealth State Housing Agreement.The bulletin analyses the diversity of community housing tenants and households, their workforce participation and main sources of income as well as tenant pathways and their future expectations.
Labour force participation and employment in public rental housing in Australia
This bulletin presents analysis of the labour force participation and employment levels among public rental housing tenants in Australia. Using the AIHW National Housing Assistance Data Repository and results from the National Social Housing Survey of public rental housing tenants, we analyse the differences between those households who are currently engaged in work versus those who are not. Secondly, we discuss the different influences that tenants purport for not working full time and identify how these vary depending on a tenant's particular circumstances. We also examine why tenants may not be participating in the labour force: either partially or not at all. Overall, the bulletin provides valuable information for policy makers and researchers alike, highlighting the complex issues surrounding the economic participation of public rental housing tenants.

This publication looks at priority allocations to public housing from 2004-05 to 2006-07. It makes comparisons between priority allocations, other allocations and the general population.
CSHA Community housing data collection 2006-07: results for the trial collection of unit record level dwelling and organisation administrative data
This report begins by providing a summary of results for each jurisdiction and a comparison across jurisdictions in order to demonstrate the potential for future community housing reporting using unit record level dwelling and organisation administrative data. It also outlines key variables provided by each jurisdiction which were considered useful for CSHA reporting and highlights issues relating to these data. Finally, this report aims to highlight areas for future data development and makes recommendations to assist in improving the quality of community housing data.

The report provides a comprehensive overview of the health and welfare of Australia's Indigenous population, presenting the latest information on population demographics, housing circumstances, disability and carers, health status, and the provision, access and use of health and community services.
