Agreement on national Indigenous housing information
In the interest of improving housing for Indigenous Australians, governments and other key stakeholders across Australia acknowledge the importance of consistent, accurate, reliable and timely housing information. The commitment to an Agreement on National Indigenous Housing Information recognises the need for such information. The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, as a Party to the Agreement and as Secretariat to its Committees, has published this booklet to inform community discussion and debate and promote the aims and objectives of the Agreement. This booklet has been produced on behalf of the National Indigenous Housing Information Implementation Committee.
Hospital statistics, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians 1997-1998 (ABS)
Occasional paper: Provides information about the reasons for which Indigenous people are hospitalised, the characteristics of Indigenous people who are hospitalised, the procedures which are performed on them in hospital and how this compares with the rest of the Australian population. Information is presented at Australia and State/Territory geographic level for public and private hospitals.This paper is available free on the ABS website.
Measuring outcomes for Community Managed Indigenous Housing (CMIH) assistance: report on the 1998-99 national data collection
Summarises the collection of a range of outcome measures for community managed Indigenous housing assistance in 1998-99. The data collection issues outlined in this report provide a basis for further examination of the many policy and information issues facing this work. Current until 30 April 2001.

This is the second edition of the publication, which was first released in 1997. It provides a comprehensive statistical overview, largely at the national level, of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and welfare. The topics covered include mortality; ill health; risk factors; access to, and use of, services; and recent developments in health and welfare information.
Indigenous mothers and their babies, Australia 1994-1996
Provides information on Indigenous mothers and their babies from perinatal data collections for each State and Territory of Australia. For the first time this report presents information on Indigenous mothers and their babies by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission region for the years 1991 to 1996. It also examines demographic and pregnancy factors of Indigenous mothers and the characteristics and outcomes of their babies.
Assessing the quality of identification of Aborginal and Torres Strait Islander people in hospital data
Results of a study conducted across a sample of hospitals in various parts of Australia to assess the quality of identification in hospitals, and proposals as to how this can be improved.
Adult access to dental care: Indigenous Australians
Describes aspect of oral health and dental services for Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australian adults between 1994 and 1996. The report compares oral health status, access to social services and social and economic impacts for Indigenous and non-Indigenous people. It also examines publicly funded treatment provided in 1995 and 1996 and compares the oral health status, type of care and services provided to Indigenous and non-Indigenous people from this group. The findings highlight the lack of information available on this health issue and the need for further research to help planning and policy development in this area.
Indigenous disability data, current status and future prospects: Report on proceedings of the Canberra workshop April 1998
A report on the proceedings of the Indigenous disability data workshop, held in Canberra in April 1998. The workshop arose out of a long-recognised need for accurate information about the prevalence and types of disability among Indigenous people. Prior to the workshop, little was known about what data were collected or the quality of available statistics in the area. The workshop aimed to explore the current and future status of disability data for Indigenous people. The report is a joint program of the ABS, AIHW and DHFS.
