Mental Health Information Strategy Sub-committee
The Mental Health Information Strategy Sub-committee (MHISS) was established by the Australian Health Ministers' Advisory Council's National Mental Health Working Group (NMHWG) to advise on initiatives to address the information requirements of the National Mental Health Strategy. The Committee provides the National Mental Health Working Group with regular reports and strategic direction advice on the implementation of mental health information issues.

NMDS Sub-committee
The NMDS sub-committee was established by MHISS to oversee the development and implementation of the National Minimum Data Sets for Mental Health Care. The Subcommittee provides technical advice to the National Mental Health Information Strategy Committee and Australian Institute of Health and Welfare on developments in mental health information. The Committee's tasks include:
- Coordinating and monitoring the development and implementation of the National Minimum Data Sets for Mental Health Care.
- Making recommendations to MHISS on a regular basis regarding the progress in the development and implementation of the National Minimum Data Sets for Mental Health Care work program.
- Providing advice to the AIHW on: the preparation of an annual national mental health services report and on other analyses undertaken using the NMDS data.
- Providing a forum for detailed consultation with jurisdiction representatives to inform the development of the National Minimum Data Sets for Mental Health Care.
