The interactive mental health admitted patients data cubes contain information on patients admitted to hospital who receive specialised psychiatric care, i.e. who are in a public psychiatric hospital or a psychiatric unit of an acute care hospital or who had a mental health-related principal diagnosis (for definitions, see AIHW publication Mental health services in Australia 2005-06). The variables included in the data cubes are year of collection, sex, age group, same day separation flag, mental health legal status, type of separation, hospital type and principal diagnosis. The data cubes present information on numbers of psychiatric care days, separations and patient days.
This page contains links to the two interactive data cubes. The first data cube contains information on all mental health-related hospital separations from 2001-02 to 2005-06. The second cube contains information on only those hospital separations which involved specialised psychiatric care from 1998-99 to 2005-06.
What is a data cube?
A data cube is a multidimensional representation of data which provides fast retrieval
and drill down
facilities. To learn more about the cube, and how to use the software behind the
cube -- PowerPlay -- click on the help button
inside the cube or visit the DEMONSTRATION page. In this system, diagnosis codes or DRGs for which there are zero counts are not displayed.
How do I export data from cubes?
You can export data from a cube to a comma separated variable file (.csv) for
use in other applications such as Microsoft Excel. Once you have the required
data visible in the interactive data cube, click the Export CSV button
at the bottom of the window. Depending on how your web browser is configured, you will then either see the .csv file or you will be prompted to save it on your computer. If required, more information is available in Help.
