The source of these data is the AIHW National Public Hospitals Establishments Data Collection. Other data on national public hospital establishments are available in Australian Hospital Statistics 2008-09. Note that the interactive data cubes reflect the most up to date data holdings of the AIHW and may not match published tables.

National public hospital establishments cubes for 2003-04 to 2008-09

The state and territory health authorities have provided establishment-level data on public hospitals to the AIHW's National Public Hospital Establishments Data Collection since 1995-96. It is collated from the routine administrative collections of public acute hospitals, psychiatric hospitals, drug and alcohol hospitals and dental hospitals in all states and territories.

More detail on the coverage of this collection is included in Appendix 2 of Australian Hospital Statistics 2008-09. Summary information on the quality and comparability of the data is included in Chapter 2 and 4.

  • Number of hospital establishments
  • Number of available hospital beds
  • Overnight/sameday/total separations
  • Recurrent expenditure ($'000)
  • Staff numbers
