  • This unit is focused on a number of programs aimed at improving the health and wellbeing of Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. This includes the Closing the Gap Clearinghouse; a collaboration between AIHW and Australian Institute of Family Studies. The Clearinghouse is an online repository for evidence-based research, assessed by experts, about what works in overcoming Indigenous disadvantage. Assessing the effectiveness of specific programs in the area of sexual health interventions is another program along with the improvement of Indigenous identification within existing health data sets, and the establishment of a national set of indicators for monitoring Indigenous-specific primary health care services. The unit also coordinates the flagship production of the Biennial Summary Report on the Health and Welfare of the Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples along with the development of the on-line Indigenous Web Observatory.
