The main functions of the Cancer and Screening Unit (CSU) are to monitor and report on national cancer statistics and population-based cancer-screening indicators, and facilitate epidemiological research into cancer outcomes.
The CSU works in collaboration with the Australasian Association of Cancer Registries (AACR) to maintain and improve the Australian Cancer Database. The CSU also collaborates with the AACR, Department of Health and Ageing, Cancer Australia and other Australian cancer bodies through the National Centre for Monitoring Cancer to develop cancer information in Australia to assist policy makers, service delivery planners and managers, and consumers.
