The Specialist Homelessness Services Collection Unit aims to describe the need for and the provision of supported accommodation and crisis services to people who are homeless and/or in crisis. The unit co-manages the Specialist Homelessness Services Project (SHSP) which will improve the evidence base in regard to homelessness and the services to support the homeless with the data provided by the new homelessness data collection system. The primary objective of the system is to allow submissions of specialist homelessness client data, the storage and administration of this data, and a flexible reporting system that will be able to provide reports that support the Commonwealth, jurisdictions, agencies and AIHW. Whilst the new homelessness data collection will not be the source of all data needed to support performance indicators, it will be an important contributor to the evidence base for monitoring and evaluating homelessness in Australia.
