These dynamic data displays provide an overview of mothers and babies, maternal demographics, the antenatal period, labour and birth, and baby outcomes. Data from the AIHW National Perinatal Data Collection are currently presented for the years 2010–2013. This release presents the new Baby outcomes module and displays data that have not previously been presented in the perinatal data portal.

Each report in this module has different disaggregations including state/territory, maternal age, Indigenous status, parity, maternal country of birth, hospital sector, remoteness, SEIFA, smoking status, BMI and previous caesarean section. Some reports also include disaggregations by data items from the labour and birth period e.g. method of birth by onset of labour. The commentary in each report provides a list of the available disaggregations.

Five new reports focusing on baby outcomes present data for 2010–2013, further disaggregated by variables of clinical or policy relevance. These variables may include state/territory, maternal age, Indigenous status, country of birth, hospital sector, smoking status, Body Mass Index, socioeconomic status, remoteness, onset of labour, method of birth, presentation, birth status, gestational age, sex, birthweight, plurality, Apgar score at 5 minutes, resuscitation methods, admission to a special care nursery or neonatal intensive care unit, and hospital length of stay. The commentary in each report provides a list of the available variables.
