Australian hospital statistics 2009-10 presents a detailed overview of Australia's 1,326 public and private hospitals. In 2009-10, there were 8.5 million separations from Australia's hospitals including: 4.8 million same-day acute separations; 3.5 million overnight acute separations; almost 337,000 non-acute separations. There were 7.4 million presentations to public hospital emergency departments, with 70% of patients seen within the recommended times for their triage categories.

(15 August 2011) Data tables presented in Chapters 2, 3, 7, 8, 9 and 11 have been updated following corrections to the National Hospital Morbidity Database. Please note that the PDF files have not been updated. The information presented in Table 3.6 has been revised to align with the National Healthcare Agreement performance indicator of the same name.
(24 November 2011) Data tables presented in Chapter 3 have been updated to correct the Cost per casemix-adjusted separation analyses.
(13 December 2011) Additional internet-only tables S3.11 to S3.21 have been included in the excel file for Chapter 3. In addition, Tables 3.12 and S3.9 have been updated to correct the age standardised rates for Hysterectomy and Prostatectomy.
