Reporting of adverse events in routinely collected data sets in Australia

Describes adverse events reported in three routinely collected data sets in Australia, and offers suggestions for further assessment and improvement of the data collections to allow the occurrence of these conditions to be gauged more accurately. The working paper should prove a useful contribution to deliberations on improving health information systems to measure adverse events and monitor the efforts to reduce them. Palliative care Information development: progress report on the National Minimum Data Set for palliative care

The aims of this report are: to describe the palliative care service delivery environment and implications for the development of the NMDS—palliative care; to provide an assessment of existing data collections relating to palliative care; to describe performance indicator data requirements and data development processes; and to provide information on work undertaken to date in developing the NMDS— palliative care, and to make recommendations for the future development of palliative care data.

Social Health Atlas of Australia volume 1: Australia (PHIDU): second edition

This volume forms part of a set of nine volumes which brings together a wide range of information about the health status and health service use of the population for each State and Territory and for Australia as a whole. It illustrates linkages between socioeconomically disadvantaged areas, poorer health status and greater use of services. This second edition was commissioned by the Commonwealth Department of Health and Aged Care and compiled by the Public Health Information Development Unit at the University of Adelaide. A National Minimum Data Set for Home and Community Care

This authoritative and useful account details the development of a national minimum data set and statistical linkage key for use in the Home and Community Care (HACC) Program. Due for implementation from July 2000, the HACC Minimum Data Set is designed to provide information about the characteristics and circumstances of people assisted through the HACC Program, and the extent and nature of assistance they receive. Although this report focuses on the development of a data set specifically for the Home and Community Care Program, it contains fundamental lessons and parallels relevant to data development across a wide range of fields. The report is best read in conjunction with the HACC Data Dictionary 1.0, developed by the AIHW under the auspice of HACC officials.

Home and Community Care (HACC) data dictionary version 1.0: Home and Community Care Program National Minimum Data Set

The HACC Data Dictionary Version 1.0 is the culmination of development work undertaken by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare as a result of the Review of HACC Data Requirements and the development of a draft HACC Minimum Data Set. The draft Minimum Data Set was accepted by HACC Officials, in principle (subject to further development work), as the basis of a new national HACC data collection to replace the existing HACC Service Provision collection, the HACC User Characteristics Survey and the Community Options Project collections. The HACC Data Dictionary Version 1.0 contains all of the data elements that are required to be reported in the HACC MDS collection. It also contains specifications for those data elements that need to be recorded on the information systems of HACC agencies in order to support the reporting requirements of other data elements. That is, the HACC Data Dictionary contains the specifications for both supporting and reporting data requirements.

National Community Services Data Dictionary, version 1

This report is an important initiative within the National Community Services Information Agreement.
