Private hospitals in the National Hospital Morbidity Database
Tables comparing the number of separations reported for private hospitals in Australian Hospital Statistics for 1999-00 and previous years with the number of separations reported to the ABS's Private Health Establishments Collection are presented as an update for Appendix 3. For 1999-00, there were 5.7% fewer separations reported in Australian Hospital Statistics than to the ABS collection. This is likely to have been because data were not provided for Australian Hospital Statistics 1999-00 for some private hospitals. However, the discrepancy may have also been affected by the use of differing definitions or different interpretations of definitions, or differences in the quality of the data provided for different purposes.
