Measures of health and health care delivery in general practice in AustraliaGeneral practice series no. 3Reports the results of the first year of SAND (Supplementary Analyses of Nominated Data). SAND is a sub-sampling methodology of the BEACH (Bettering the Evaluation And Care of Health) program, a continuous national study of general practice activity, conducted between April 1998 and March 1999. The SAND method examines patient health and aspects of health care delivery through data collected in parallel to the BEACH GP-patient encounter information. The SAND questions investigate: patient wellbeing, body mass, smoking, and alcohol use; prevalence of disease, for example hypertension, upper gastrointestinal conditions, musculoskeletal problems, hepatitis; severity of illness; co-morbidity; immunisation; mammography; occupation and employment; length of consultation; and GP satisfaction. This report is the third in the General Practice Series produced by the University of Sydney's General Practice Statistics and Classification Unit, a collaborating unit of the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare. Authored by Sayer GP, Britt H, Horn F, Bhasale A, McGeechan K, Charles J, Miller GC, Hull B & Scahill S. Published 2 May 2000; ISSN 1442 3022; ISBN-13 978 1 74024 049 9; AIHW cat. no. General practice activity in Australia 1998-99General practice series no. 2Provides the results of the first year of the BEACH program conducted between April 1998 and March 1999. It relies on a sample of 98,400 GP-patient encounter records from a random sample of 984 GPs to describe aspects of general practice in Australia: the characteristics of the GPs; the types of services provided; the characteristics of the patients who attend general practitioners; the reasons for their attendance; the problems managed at these consultations; and the management techniques adopted by the GPs. A comparison of results with those of an earlier national study conducted in 1990-91 provides some measure of changes that have occurred over the last eight years. Authored by Britt H, Sayer GP, Miller GC, Charles J, Scahill S, Horn F, Bhasale A & McGeechan K. Published 25 October 1999; ISSN 1442 3022; ISBN-13 978 1 74024 016 1; AIHW cat. no. GEP 2; 213pp.; OUT OF PRINT |
