Stream 2: Survey of aged care and dementia-specific services in NSW in 2006-07

This project stream is looking at how the level, mix and interaction of hospital services for people with dementia are associated with different patient outcomes, including rates of hospital admission or duration of stay in NSW public hospital. The scope of this survey includes all public hospitals in NSW that treat persons 50 years or older.

Three survey forms (below) are being used to determine what kinds of hospital services were available to help people with dementia. There will also be follow-up site visits in selected locations.

Permission was obtained for this research from the NSW Health Department's Ethics Committee, Area Health Services and hospitals before survey forms were sent out to hospitals.

Findings from the survey and interviews will be used to develop a typology of hospital-based aged care and dementia services.
