The Veteran community
At June 2001, approximately 314,000 of the one-and-a-half million servicemen and women who enlisted in the Australian Forces over the past century were still alive. These veterans served in conflicts from World War I (1914-1918) through to recent overseas missions.
The Institute's role
The AIHW role is to assist the Department of Veterans' Affairs in studies investigating the health of veterans. This website provides information and links to these health studies.
Comparative health status
There have been a number of studies investigating the health of veterans. This website only deals with studies with an AIHW involvement or an important link to an AIHW study.
The Female Vietnam Veteran & Civilian Health Register (FVV&CHR)
The Register is a record of Australian women who participated in the Vietnam War in various roles and contains information that could be used as a basis for future health studies. It is operated by the AIHW on behalf of the Department of Veterans' Affairs.
