A number of the reports below focus on the historical technical development of information about data.

The national data dictionaries are a reference of standardised, accepted terms and protocols used for data collection in the Health, Community Services and Housing sectors. These terms reflect a vast array of health, community services, housing and research expertise.

National Community Services Data Dictionary, version 2

Updates the data recommended for use in Australian community services data collections. Use of the dictionary will help ensure that the data are uniform and of high quality. The format for data definitions continues to be based on the international standard for defining data elements issued by the International Organization for Standardization. Version 2 data definitions are organised according to entities in the National Community Information Services Model. This report is also available on CD.

National Health Data Dictionary version 9

National Health Data Dictionary version 8

Version 8 data definitions are organised according to their alignment to entites in The National Health Information Model. This edition included a subject/keyword index and a CD ROM version of the Dictionary.

National Community Services Information Development Plan

The National Community Services Information Plan was developed by the National Community Services Information Management Group as requested by the Standing Committee of Community Services and Income Security Administrators (SCCSISA). The Plan incorporates the results of consultations with community services government agencies and non-government peak organisations. It focuses on the role of community services, the national community services policy agenda, the need for national community services data, a framework for community services data development, development strategies and information development priorities.

Home and Community Care (HACC) data dictionary version 1.0: Home and Community Care Program National Minimum Data Set

The HACC Data Dictionary Version 1.0 is the culmination of development work undertaken by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare as a result of the Review of HACC Data Requirements and the development of a draft HACC Minimum Data Set. The draft Minimum Data Set was accepted by HACC Officials, in principle (subject to further development work), as the basis of a new national HACC data collection to replace the existing HACC Service Provision collection, the HACC User Characteristics Survey and the Community Options Project collections. The HACC Data Dictionary Version 1.0 contains all of the data elements that are required to be reported in the HACC MDS collection. It also contains specifications for those data elements that need to be recorded on the information systems of HACC agencies in order to support the reporting requirements of other data elements. That is, the HACC Data Dictionary contains the specifications for both supporting and reporting data requirements.

National Health Data Dictionary version 7

The format for data definitions continues to be based on the international standard for defining data elements issued by the International Organization for Standardization. Version 7 features a new way of organising the data definitions that integrates the definitions with The National Health Information Model. The Dictionary is also available in electronic form via the National Health Information Knowledgebase at the Institute's Internet home page.

National Community Services Data Dictionary, version 1

This report is an important initiative within the National Community Services Information Agreement. It is designed to promote the collection and comparison of uniform data on community services throughout Australia. The dictionary contains a core set of data definitions which will be expanded in subsequent editions. Data definitions are presented according to the National Community Services Information Model, and in a format based on the international standard for defining data elements issued by the International Organisation for Standardisation.

National Classifications of Community Services

National Health Information Agreement: procedure manual
