Overview

In the broadest sense, welfare refers to the wellbeing of individuals, families and the community. Many interrelated factors affect wellbeing—including housing, education, employment, health and safety. Wellbeing can be bolstered by support from family and friends or though formal services and assistance. The AIHW has compiled Australia’s welfare—a biennial national report card on the welfare of Australians and the role of welfare services and supports—since 1993.
