Northern Territory

In 2016–17, 23 publicly funded alcohol and other drug treatment agencies in the Northern Territory provided 5,382 completed treatment episodes to 3,459 clients (Tables SA.1–2).

In 2016–17 most (84%) clients in the Northern Territory received treatment from 1 agency, and received an average of 1.6 treatment episodes, which is consistent with the national average of 1.6 episodes (Tables SC.21 and SC.23).

In the Northern Territory, a total of 9,264 closed treatment episodes were provided to clients over the 4 most recent collection years, 2013–14, 2014–15, 2015–16 and 2016–17. Of these closed episodes, varying proportions of clients received some form of treatment across multiple collection years (Table SC.28):

  • 5.8% (541) of clients received treatment in the 2 most recent collection years, that is, in both 2015–16 and 2016–17
  • 1.8% (167) of clients received treatment in the 3 most recent collection years, that is, in each year from 2014–15 to 2016–17
  • 1.2% (109) of clients received treatment in all 4 collection years, that is, in each year from 2013–14 to 2016–17
  • 23% (2,134) of clients received treatment in 2016–17 only, and about 1 in 6 (17% or 1,614 clients) received treatment in 2015–16 only.
