This web report supplements the Alcohol and other drug treatment services in Australia 2016–17 report by presenting key state and territory findings on clients, closed treatment episodes, and treatment agencies in 2016–17.
In 2016–17, half of all 70 treatment agencies in South Australia were located in Major cities (50%), followed by Outer regional areas (24%) (Figure 20; Table SA.3). Remote and Very remote areas had the lowest number of treatment agencies (both 6%). In all remoteness areas, at least half (50%) of treatment agencies were non-government organisations, with Outer regional reporting the highest proportion (59%). Over the 5 years to 2016–17, the number of publicly funded treatment agencies in South Australia decreased from 93 to 70 (Table SA.1).
