Dynamic data displays

Shelter data from the 2016 ABS Census is expected to become available in early 2018.

Shelter has been disaggregated into three distinct groups based on the Census of Population and Housing:

1. Homelessness
  • Persons who are in improvised dwellings, tents or sleeping out
  • Persons in supported accommodation for the homeless
  • Persons staying temporarily with other household
  • Persons staying in boarding houses and other temporary lodging
  • Persons living in severely crowding dwellings
2. Overcrowding
  • Persons living in other crowded dwellings other than severely crowding dwellings
3. Housing stress
  • Households that spend more than 30% of their income on housing costs
