MORT Excel workbooks

Mortality Over Regions and Time (MORT) books

MORT Excel workbooks present mortality data and leading causes of death by sex for specific geographical areas in 2017–2021. They include number of deaths, rates per population, median age at death, premature deaths, potential years of life lost and potentially avoidable deaths. Due to changes in geographic classifications over time, long-term trends are not available.

MORT books are available for the following:

Where possible, MORT books include graphical representations of age-standardised rates, premature deaths, potentially avoidable deaths and rate ratios for selected causes of death. For example:

Figure 1: Age-standardised rate of premature deaths (aged under 75), by Primary Health Network, 2021

This figure is a horizonal bar graph showing the age-standardised rate (per 100,000) of premature deaths (aged under 75), by Primary Health Network, 2021. The highest age-standardised rate was for Western Queensland, while the lowest age-standardised rate was for Northern Sydney.
