The AIHW collects and reports information on a wide range of health and welfare topics and issues. In alternating years it presents ’overviews’ of the nation’s health and welfare in its flagship reports, Australia’s health and Australia’s welfare. These flagship reports complement the AIHW’s work across a broad range of subjects, from hospitals, disease and injury, and mental health, to ageing, homelessness, disability and child protection.

As part of its overarching health and welfare reporting, the AIHW also:

  • compiles and reports national data on the health and welfare of Indigenous Australians every 2–3 years in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Performance Framework series of reports
  • collects, analyses and publishes estimates of expenditure on health and welfare
  • reports on the 40 indicators in the National Health Performance Framework in its Australia’s health report.
