We are committed to making our information, products and services available to everyone. We continue to explore different ways to make it easier for you to get information.
Some of the ways we make our information accessible include:
- using plain language wherever possible
- ensuring reading levels are right for the audience
- making the website responsive on a range of devices.
We are working to comply with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 to Level AA, which describe how to make web content more usable and accessible for everyone. Under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992, Australian Government departments and agencies must make sure that people with disabilities can access online information and services.
Data visualisations
Data presented using interactive products, such as Tableau and ESRI mapping are not WCAG 2.1 compliant.
However, we ensure data are accessible to everyone by providing an alternative format in Microsoft Excel.
PDF documents
Some material on our website is provided in Portable Document Format (PDF). To view or print a PDF you will need to have a PDF reader installed. If you do not have a PDF reader, you can download Adobe Acrobat Reader for free.
We understand that some users may still find accessing PDF files difficult and we have, where possible, taken steps to ensure that alternative formats are available. However, despite our best efforts, some PDF files – such as scanned and older PDFs and those containing complex statistics and data tables – cannot be made fully accessible.
Accessibility help - contact us
Our website is composed of the work of many different sections within the Institute. While we aim to meet accessibility guidelines and strive to seek solutions to ensure all areas of the website meet the highest accessibility level possible, difficulties may be encountered.
If there is information you need that you cannot access, please contact us so we can assist you by providing an alternative format.
