Emergency department care 2016–17: Australian hospital statistics provides information on people who present at emergency departments in Australia, including who used services, why they used them, and how long they had to wait for care.

There were about 7.8 million presentations to 287 public hospital emergency departments
Emergency departments are a critical component of Australia’s health care system. Many of Australia’s public hospitals have purpose-built emergency departments, staffed 24 hours a day, providing care for patients who require urgent medical attention.
