This report presents information on the youth detention population in Australia from June 2021 to June 2025. Among the 884 young people in detention on an average night in the June quarter 2025, most were male (91%), aged 14–17 (81%) and First Nations (56%). Over the 4–year period, the number of young people in detention fluctuated across quarters, though rose overall from 809 in the June quarter 2021.
