Context statement: An indicator of the success of employment services. Stable employment following assistance from employment services reduces dependency on income support payments.
From 2015–16 to 2018–19, the proportion of job seekers off benefits after participation in employment services was around 44% (Department of Employment 2016, 2017; Department of Jobs and Small Business 2018; Department of Employment, Skills, Small and Family Business 2019).
There was a significant decline in the proportion of jobactive job seekers moving off or reducing their reliance on income support in 2019–20 (36.8% down from 44.6% in 2018–19). It is likely that the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic affected this measure, as fewer job seekers have exited income support since March 2020. This is in line with the broader labour market decline (Department of Education, Skills and Employment 2020).
