Findings from this report:
  • In 1997 and 1998, over one and a quarter million Australian women were screened by BreastScreen Australia

  • More than half of all women aged 50–69 participated in the Program

  • The number of new cases of breast cancer in women aged 50–69 increased since the early 1990s

  • The crude small cancer detection rate in 1998 was higher than the National Accreditation Requirements standard
