The National Cervical Screening Program aims to reduce incidence, morbidity and mortality from cervical cancer. Cervical screening in Australia 2008-2009 presents national statistics monitoring the NCSP using new performance indicators.
In 2008–2009, more than 3.6 million women aged 20–69 participated in the NCSP. This was 59% of eligible women
Participation was highest in Major cities and Inner regional areas and lower in more remote areas
Participation showed a clear trend of increasing participation with increasing socioeconomic status
In 2007, the cervical cancer incidence rate was 9 new cases per 100,000 women aged 20–69
30 Apr 2012 - The changes to the PDF are to replace the word 'breast' with 'cervical', edit spelling errors, and change the data for CIN II and CIN III (text only in one paragraph) which erroneously included a state that does not distinguish between CIN II and CIN III, and therefore skewed the data towards CIN III. Changes to the data tables are to include 'age not stated' records in 'all ages' totals for 4 tables.
