OSR – client contacts

In 2024–25, organisations had around 6.2 million client contacts (Figure 8).

The data visualisation below (Figure 8) shows the number of client contacts for each collection period from 2018–19 to 2024–25 by contact type. Select by either:

  • organisation type
  • remoteness
  • state/territory
  • Indigenous status

to see data for that breakdown.

Data tables supporting this visualisation are available at Data.

In 2024–25, of client contacts:

  • 91% (or around 5.6 million) were provided by ACCHOs
  • 22% (or around 1.4 million) were provided in Major cities, 21% (1.3 million) in Inner regional areas, 20% (1.3 million) in Outer regional areas, 18% (1.1 million) in Very remote areas and 18% (1.1 million) in Remote areas
  • 88% (5.4 million) were with First Nations clients
  • 31% (or around 1.9 million) were made by general practitioners (GP)
  • 30% (or around 1.9 million) were made by nurses
  • 10% (or around 610,000) were made by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health workers and practitioners.

The large increase in client contacts in 2021–22 was mainly the result of an increase in non-Indigenous clients seeking COVID-related services (for example, vaccinations) in that period (AIHW 2023). This was followed by a return to a more usual service provision in 2022–23. For more information on the impact of COVID-19 see Related material.

Average contacts per client

In 2024–25, there was an average of 11.9 contacts per client.

ACCHOs had a higher average number of contacts per client than non-ACCHOs (12.3 compared with 8.9).
