Amendments

27 May 2005 - In the PDF version, the average length of overnight stay in private hospitals on page xii has been corrected to 5.6 days.

• This site will be updated with revised tables for Chapters 2, 4, 7 and 12 when 2003-04 AR-DRG cost weight information becomes available from the Department of Health and Ageing's National Hospital Cost Data Collection. Updates will also be provided for the tables in Chapters 2 and 4 and Appendix 4 when data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics' 2003-04 Private Health Establishments Collections become available.

1 Jun 2005 - In the Australian hospital statistics 2003-04 PDF version, the continuation page of Table 4.8 on page 68 has been amended to include diabetes complications, previously omitted.

11 Jul 2005 - The data in Tables 11.3 and 11.4 has been presented in five year age groups rather than ten year age groups, to conform with previous publications and with the age groups used in the internet tables for other chapters. This update has been applied to the excel workbook only.

13 Jul 2005 - Appendix 7 has been updated following the publication of the Department of Health and Ageing's The state of our public hospitals, June 2005 report.

18 Jul 2005 - The time series tables for Chapter 2 have been updated with the hidden columns containing old data removed. This update has been applied to the excel workbook only.

19 Sep 2005 - Table 7.17 Chapter 7 has been updated to correct the assignment of the 'Surgical' and 'Other' categories presented in this table. This update has been applied to the excel workbook only.

21 Sep 2005 - Selected tables in Appendix 4 have been updated to incorporate ABS Private Health Establishments Collection data 2003-04. This update has been applied to the excel workbook only.

26 Sep 2005 - Tables 2.1, 2.2 and 2.6 in Chapter 2 have been updated to incorporate ABS private hospital numbers. This update has been applied to the excel workbook only. 

27 Sep 2005 - Table 4.4 in Chapter 4 has been updated to incorporate ABS private hospital data. This update has been applied to the excel workbook only. 

28 Nov 2005 - Tables 2.1 and 2.2 in chapter 2, tables 3.1, 3.2, 3.4, 3.5 and 3.6 in chapter 3 and tables 4.3 and 4.4 in chapter 4 have been updated due to resupply of psychiatric hospital data from South Australia and corrections to accreditation status data from Western Australia and average salary from Victoria. This update has been applied to the excel workbook only.

21 Dec 2005 - Tables 2.3 and 2.4 have been updated with 2003-04 public hospital cost weights for AR-DRG Version 4.2 unavailable at the time of publication, and rows have been added for 2003-04 AR-DRG Version 5.0 public hospital cost weights unavailable at the time of publication.

• Relative stay indexes in Table 2.3 have been updated with a new AR-DRG Version 5.0 methodology. Private hospital expenditure (constant prices) data in Table 2.1 have been recalculated using the ABS's Household Final Consumption Expenditure deflators. The updates have been applied to the excel workbook only.
• Tables 4.1, 4.2, 4.12 and 4.13 have been updated with 2003-04 public hospital cost weights for AR-DRG Version 4.2 unavailable at the time of publication, and alternative versions of these tables have been created with AR-DRG Version 5.0 updated 2003-04 cost weights unavailable at the time of publication. Relative stay indexes in these tables have been updated with a new AR-DRG Version 5.0 methodology. The updates have been applied to the excel workbook only.
• The average cost weight of public hospital separations shown in Tables 7.4 and 7.9 have been updated with 2003-04 public hospital cost weights for AR-DRG Version 5.0 unavailable at the time of publication. The updates have been applied to the excel workbook only.
• Cost by volume data have been added to the public hospital tables 12.1, 12.7, 12.9 and 12.12 based on 2003-04 public hospital cost weights for AR-DRG Version 5.0 unavailable at the time of publication. Relative stay indexes in tables 12.1 and 12.2 have been updated with a new AR-DRG Version 5.0 methodology. The updates have been applied to the excel workbook only.
