Australian hospital statistics 2012–13 presents a detailed overview of Australia’s public and private hospitals. In 2012–13, there were about 9.4 million separations from hospitals, including: 5.2 million same-day acute separations; 3.7 million overnight acute separations; about 450,000 sub-acute and non-acute separations. There were also 7.9 million non-admitted patient emergency services and more than 46 million outpatient services provided by public hospitals.

Amendments

6 May 2014 - The following tables have been revised:

Tables 2.2, 4.1, 4.2 and 4.6 have been updated to correct errors in the calculation of the numbers of beds per 1,000 population and average change in beds per 1,000 population over time.
Table 6.29 has been updated to correct the average cost weights for both public and private hospitals.
Some data tables presented in Chapter 6 have been updated to correct minor errors involving approximately 20 records. The revised tables are tables 6.1, 6.5, 6.8, 6.15, 6.20, 6.21 and 6.22.
