This is the eighth national report on the 21 Better Cardiac Care measures for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The level of access for cardiac-related health services is improving for First Nations people. While the mortality rate from cardiac conditions is falling among First Nations people, it is still higher than among non-Indigenous Australians.
Between 2006 and 2021, the mortality rate from cardiac conditions for First Nations people fell by 35%
First Nations people receiving PCI following a severe heart attack increased from 28% in 2006–07 to 70% in 2020–21
Among First Nations people discharged from hospital with ACS in 2018–19, 87% were on CVD medicines within 30 days
Chronic disease management follow-up services for First Nations people rose from 42% in 2010–11 to 64% in 2018–19
