Palliative care measures
The national palliative care measures aim to assess whether “people affected by life-limiting illnesses get the care they need to live well”, aligning with the vision of the National Palliative Care Strategy (2018). These measures were developed by the AIHW and are consistent with the broad goals of the Strategy.
This report provides the second update on the progress of 5 objectives in palliative care:
- effective
- safe
- appropriate
- continuous
- accessible care.
In 2026 the measures will be updated in two tranches. This report release updates measures 1.1, 1.2, 3.2, 4.2b and 5.1a; updates to measures 2.1, 4.1 and 4.2a will be published in late 2026.
